Traffic filters: what they mean for you

From Monday 28 September 2026, Oxford’s traffic filters trial will replace the congestion charge. From this date, you’ll no longer be able to pay the £5 congestion charge. If you drive through a filter while it is operating, you’ll need a valid permit. You can still drive to all parts of Oxford, but you may need to use a different route if you don’t have a valid traffic filters permit. If you already have a congestion charge permit, keep an eye on your inbox – we’re contacting all current permit holders by email.
